Data Sovereignty

Strengthening digital resilience with NATO

By Jon Russell

In an era defined by digital volatility, the ability to secure, move and act on data is critical to the defense and resilience of nations. From governments and corporations to startups and citizens, every actor in the digital ecosystem depends on trustworthy infrastructure to ensure security in cyberspace and beyond.

At SpaceTime, our mission is to make data sovereign and secure. These are principles that directly align with the challenges faced by modern defense systems.

That’s why we are proud to co-host the upcoming NATO Innovation Range Technical Demonstration for Eastern Flank Deterrence Line (EFDL), taking place in Riihimäki, Finland, on 8–10 December 2025. SpaceTime provides storage for the technical demonstration participants and organising partners. With integrations to key systems, such as situational awareness systems, machine learning, analytics and data platforms.

A collaboration for resilience

This is not a hackathon.

This is not a throwaway event.

This is an event to bring together brilliant minds to deploy next-generation technologies that strengthen NATO’s operational resilience.

The EFDL event brings together two major NATO arms—Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) and the Defence Industry, Innovation and Armaments (D2IA) Division—with a focus on solutions that are applicable around drone deterrence and defense.

This is not for anyone.

We are looking for participants who can demonstrate mature systems (technology readiness scale 5 or above) that will be of interest to NATO member statements and procurement buyers. This is your opportunity to demonstrate what your technology can do.

We are looking for technology that can integrate with SitaWare, the command platform, and Maven, the AI-powered Palantir smart system.

The deadline for applications has been extended for teams that are ready to meet this challenge.

Focus areas

In more detail, selected participants will be challenged to develop and present solutions that address at least one of the following priorities:

Resilient Connectivity: Secure data exchange between unmanned systems operating in contested electromagnetic environments.

AI-Enhanced Decision Support: Applying AI to improve situational awareness, automation and decision-making across command-and-control systems.

5G/6G and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) Integration: Showcasing how next-generation networks can enhance battlefield connectivity and spectral agility.

Mission Assurance in Extreme Conditions: Maintaining operational continuity and data integrity in harsh Arctic or high-latitude environments.

These areas evolved directly from previous EFDL demonstration pilots, which explored the use of unmanned support systems in complex operational contexts. This event moves further, focusing on secure data enablement, AI integration and resilient connectivity that can be deployed in real-world conditions.

Supported by Europe’s innovation ecosystem

The event is supported by a range of leading technology organizations, including Nokia, Telia, NEST AI and VTT, alongside emerging startups contributing new ideas to the evolving-world of defense technology.

At SpaceTime, we believe defense innovation begins with trust in data. This collaboration with NATO and its partners represents a significant step toward building the resilient digital backbone that modern defense operations require.

Backed by SpaceTime technology

As a data partner, SpaceTime is providing our technology to help participants bring the magic of their technology to life. We will provide data storage and ensure interoperability with connected systems and platforms. SpaceTime will also provide AI and machine learning models, and on-site GPU compute power.

We’re excited to see what participating companies can bring to the table. We are honoured to have the opportunity to move European security and sovereignty forward.
